Mission

This program seeks to prepare and qualify academically and professionally competent midwives who can keep pace with scientific developments in providing comprehensive care for women, newborns, and their families. This is achieved through an appropriate learning environment, distinguished teaching staff, quality-assured curricula, and modern teaching methods that meet the needs of the healthcare sector and serve the community.

Objectives

• Provide students with fundamental, professional, and research-based knowledge in maternal, child, family, and community care.
• Enable students to acquire the skills necessary to work in the field of midwifery, thereby supplying the community with highly qualified professionals.
• Train students in the proper use of medical tools, equipment, and devices, including preventive maintenance, fault identification, and corrective actions.
• Instill professional ethics and awareness of relevant regulations and legislation.
• Develop effective communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:
• Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental concepts, terminology, and professional and practical theories related to midwifery.
• Explain various medical methods and practices within the field of specialization.
• Describe appropriate nursing care for pregnant women and fetuses.
• Identify procedures related to obstetrics and gynecology wards and inpatient care accurately.

Cognitive Skills

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:
• Analyze medical problems in midwifery and make appropriate decisions.
• Diagnose primary cases of gynecological diseases.
• Anticipate complications that may occur during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, and provide appropriate care.
• Evaluate procedures, methods, and materials used to address medical problems in midwifery in accordance with practical realities.

Professional and Practical Skills

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:
• Apply knowledge and skills acquired through theoretical study and practical training to address real-world professional challenges.
• Provide health education and medical and nursing counseling to pregnant women and families.
• Prepare patients and equipment and assist physicians during clinical examinations in delivery rooms.
• Apply emergency principles and family planning methods (IUD insertion, hormonal pills, hormonal injections, and local methods), and administer immunizations to women and children efficiently.

General and Transferable Skills

• Demonstrate awareness of accountability to Allah, embody Islamic values, national identity, professional ethics, legal frameworks, and societal values in professional practice.
• Participate actively in community service through the medical knowledge and skills acquired in midwifery.
• Use the necessary devices and materials employed in the field of midwifery competently.
• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors, while maintaining confidentiality and professional conduct.

About

This program is one of the Health Sciences programs implemented by the Programs Unit at the Center for CECS – Ibb University. It is offered under the parallel education system for graduates of the General Secondary School Certificate (Science Track).

The duration of study is three years, organized into six academic semesters, after which graduates are awarded a Diploma in Midwifery.

The program provides dedicated laboratories for medical courses within the Center, in addition to scientific laboratories affiliated with the Faculty of Science.
